Rising to the Challenge

Over the past 12 months, the SRPe has firmly established its presence through the implementation and continual assessment of its Strategic (Research) Investment Plan, the establishment of the SRPe Graduate School, the taking forward and promotion of its recruitment strategy, the development and agreement of proposals for international benchmarking (KPIs), and the integration of non-technical disciplines such as social scientists, economists and others.

Over this period, the SRPe Strategy Board has developed a strategic response in the form of an implementation plan that aims to reflect both the global economic environment and opportunities for Scotland and the relevant engineering expertise and skills in the Scottish HEI base. This has been developed after detailed consultations with academic and industrial colleagues.

It has defined five cross-cutting themes which are designed to provide the technical basis for the research engagement across the partnership, as follows:

SRPe Cross-cutting Research Themes

  • Technologies for High Value Manufacturing

  • Engineering at the Life Sciences Interface (Biomedical Engineering)

  • Civil Engineering (The Telford Institute)

  • Communications

  • Energy Technologies
